Home ‘Puščava’ on the hill called Sveti Jošt nad Kranjem (st. Jošt above the town of Kranj) is a cottage used by the Scout organisation Rod zelenega Jošta since the organisation was estabilished. It lies right under the top of the 845m tall hill with a gorgeus view over Kranj and surrounding region. It is a perfect accomodation for Scout activities, but also for other oppurtunities, such as picnics, meetings, family leave or group vacations up to 18 people. It’s especially suitable for tourist groups, who are interested in nature, hiking or mountain biking and for those who wish to explore the beautiful Gorenjska region or central region of Slovenia.
History
The translation of the name “Puščava” means “desert”, however don’t let the name decieve you. Because the cottage is surrounded by the calmness of the forest, it was used from as far as the early 18th century by monks called “Puščavniki”. On the pilgrimage route to the hallowed church of Sv. Jošt, they lived in the cottage for weeks in self-isolation. The house still exhibits the spirit of that time, with its authentic fresco and black kitchen with open fireplace.
About
The cottage has shared beds for max. 18 people in two separate bedrooms.
Because it is a scouts cottage, it is reccomended that you bring your own bed linen or sleeping bags, however we can also loan our fresh sleeping bags for 3€/piece.
The house is equipped with a kitchen for cooking meals for larger groups of people, pantry, anteroom, dining room, bathroom with toilet, shower and three sinks. The upper floor has a bigger and smaller room with beds. The house is connected to the elecricity grid (EU type F socket) and has warm, drinkable water.
The kitchen is equipped with two bigger and two smaller gas stoves, firewood stove, microwave oven, double sink, dishwasher and a large fridge. Plates, cups and cutlery for larger groups are available, and so are the appropriate pots and pans. There are several CO detectors in the house.
Outside there is a grill, a large canopy, fireplace, flagpole, outer toilet and tables with benches.
On the top of the hill, 5 minutes on foot from the cottage, there is a restaurant with a large variety of traditional and gourmet dishes. The restaurant is open every day from 8.00 until 20.00. More about them on their website (slovene).
Parking is available on public parking spaces under the hill, besides the road on the hill, and on the very top at the restaurant and church. Direct access to the house is possible on foot. The road is also a great biking-route, while the separate walking paths on the hill through the forest are also very popular with the locals.

Renting
The price for renting the house is 140€ per first night, 120€ for each following night. Minimum lenght of rent is two nights.
The house can also be rented via AirBnB for a fixed price of 120€ per night, with 15% discount if reservation is made for 7 days or more.
Keep in mind that you will also have to pay tourist tax separately, which is 2€ per person per night. (Scouts and some other non-profit organisations are formally exempted from paying tourist tax.)
